Thank you for this great episode! Simone was a really interesting guest even by the very high standards of this podcast.

She overall made some great points, but I was confused by her response to the "would you ban TikTok" question. She seemed to be arguing that we don't need to ban TikTok because it acts as a form of natural selection. Wouldn't it be catastrophic if you applied this logic to every social ill? Should China just allowed everyone to become opium addicts? They saw a corrupting product and put a stop to it. After the government's intervention, China went from having 27% of its male population being addicted to opium to the current negligible %. Obviously, China is better of having done that.

Since you mentioned IQ shredders, Spandrell has started visiting podcasts recently (Medgold and something else like Bloody Satellite or w/e). I think he'll have some interesting things to say. He's @spandrell3 on twatter.

Isn’t the problem with The New Season that you go and everybody is not that hot? The A+ people don’t need it and won’t go. The culture that forced the very hot to hang out with losers was Slave Morality winning in Brian’s terms.

huh? Maybe it's because I recorded this so long ago but this does not sound like my definition of slave morality at all. My definition of slave morality is one that turns competition over ability into competition over conformity, or alternative explicit competition into implicit competition.

Ok thanks for that definition. In the part that prompted me to comment she’s talking about the LDS and their mixers or whatever.

Isn’t your problem with pressure to conform by the middle on the top? In order to get average people to give up their impossibly high standards I think you have to reign in the top performers they are trying to imitate.

I do appreciate these conversations with people who take their reasonable ideas in dotty directions. I don’t think I’m convinced by any of them yet but it’s fun to hear them go all in.
